What are Pokémon ?

One very simple question and yet the answer is not so simple or easy. It directly involves the perspective that the question was initially asked. There are many aspects of Pokémon such as the in game creatures and the real world phenomenon. This real world aspect of Pokémon can be the subject for analysis from different points of view, such as a financial/marketing one or a gaming one and even a cultural one.

As a Pokémon trainer and former industry insider, I will try to share some thoughts on these captivating creatures, that multiple times managed to out place “sex” on the number one place of frequent search requests on major search engines.

In the Pokémon Origins project we will try to examine different aspects of Pokémon, in and out of the game universe. For this task we will use various tools or sciences such as biology, programming, marketing, folklore anthropology, gaming anthropology and much more that we’ll find on the way to discover the elusive Pokémon Origins.

The essence of pokemon was long lost in the hype. Evoloutuion was never meant to be a sudden change in the pokemon's appearance- save critters like Eevee that would evolve instantly. Take, for example, dugtrio. They are specifically described as a group of three diglett working together according to the pokedex. Look at the baby kangaskhan in its mother's pouch- why wouldn't that be its own species if it wasn't the infant version of kangaskhan- the same species? Other pokemon, like Caterpie's evoloutions, use evoloution to demonstrate the drastic physical metamorphesis they go through.
That leads me to the pokedex itself- a new encyclopedia created from the main protagonist's discovery. They are a generalization that would have had to have been made to accomidate to the limitations of a gameboy cartridge.
In essence, you can either consider red and blue to be the pseudoscientific cannon, since it sticks best to the original intentions of the creators, or you can try to deal with the newer versions, which say that all pokemon are sentient, cheerful, vegetarian critters.

Gongratulations, this is brilliant idea, analyzing the "Pokemon Phenomenon" core and what's behind, as well as different aspects of the game!Surely this is a Legendary Pokemon exclusive column since i haven't encountered anything similar on other pokemon sites on the web.I can see a lot of potential here!I expext the first "official article" of "Pokemon Origins" with great anticipation and enthusiasm.
Good luck and good work Whiteyoshi.
