- Description
- Metagross is one of the best Steel type Pokémon out there and it sure deserves being an overused one it due to its stats. Most of its stats are average or above average with Attack being the top one. Its high Defense along with the defensive advantage its Steel-type has against many other types make it a nice tank. It is immune to Poison attacks and resistant to Psychic, Normal, Flying, Rock, Steel, Grass, Ice, Dragon but it is also in disadvantage against Ground and Fire, two (unfortunately) commonly used types. Its ability won't let the opponent lower its Stats however BURN condition still lowers the Attack. Metagross is also my favourite Pokémon and has proved itself in many battles; check the stats (Load) of the one I traded from Colosseum.
- Strategy against Metagross
- Metagross has a low Special Defense and an even lower Speed, so a well-trained Special Sweeper (preferably one with Fire-type moves) should be able to deal with it. Pokémon like Swampert, Ludicolo and Milotic could be proved deadly against Metagross. Earthquake and Flamethrower are excellent counter-Metagross moves and are often seen in various movesets.
Role: Physical Sweeper
- Item Held
Leftovers OR
Lum Berry OR
Liechi Berry- Nature
- Adamant (+Attack –Sp.Attack) / Brave (+Attack –Speed)
- Effort Points
- 252 Attack, 128 Sp.Defense, 128 HP / Defense
- Moveset
- Strategy
- A Base Power of 100, STAB and Metagross' high Attack Stat make Meteor Mash a staple move for this set. Earthquake should also take care of any Fire-type Pokémon that could threaten Metagross. Brick Break brakes defensive walls and Shadow Ball or Sludge Bomb can take care of the rest.
Role: Mixed Sweeper
- Item Held
Leftovers OR
Lum Berry OR
Petaya Berry- Nature
- Quiet (+Sp.Attack –Speed) / Mild (+Sp.Attack –Defense) / Rash (+Sp.Attack –Sp.Defense)
- Effort Points
- 252 Attack, 128 Defense / Sp.Defense, 128 HP
- Moveset
- Strategy
- Meteor Mash and Earthquake or solid staple moves again. Thunderpunch is there for those Water-type Pokémon that are resistant to Steel and Psychic gets STAB for a nice amount of damage. A nature that boosts Special Attack is a must.
Role: EXPLOSIONer
- Item Held
Leftovers OR
Lum Berry OR
Salac Berry- Nature
- Adamant (+Attack –Sp.Attack) / Jolly (+Speed –Sp.Attack)
- Effort Points
- 252 Attack, 198 Speed, 60 HP
- Moveset
- Strategy
- Metagross has low speed but a Speed boosting Nature and Agility can take care of that. Metagross' Explosion should kill almost everything. And if you wonder why 252, 198 and 60 EP, it's because we wanted a rounded boost in each of the selected Stats.
Contests
- Item Held
Yellow Scarf- Nature
- Bold, Impish, Lax or Relaxed
- Contest Moveset
Just use Take Down and Rain Dance to gain Appeal points and Earthquake to Jam your opponents, on your last turn use Explosion and the victory would be yours.
Useful Links: If you are not familiar with game language used above, read through the Stats & Training Guide, the Team Building Guide and the Breeding Guide. More guides shall be added soon to help you out. If you have suggestions on additional movesets for either Battles or Contests, please post them in the Comments section. I will then evaluate them and probably add some of them, giving you credit.

Using Metagross as a combination Sweeper/Tank is a good strategy that I use to finish off annoy-ers and other tanks.

Metagross, the #376 Iron Leg Pokemon, is a steel, and psychic type Pokemon. His natural color is blue, if you didn't know. It is the final stage of Beldum, and Metang. Metagross is a very slow, but stong Pokemon. His passive abilities are a 70% chance of Clear Body, and 30% chance of Levitate. Metang is one of he heaviest Pokemon of all, at a grand total of 1212 pounds. It's egg group is in the Mineral Egg group. Metagross' legs are former Beldums' bodies. The body of Metagross is Metang. Metagross may look like a mustle head, but he is very smart. If you let him have the abilities called, "Hammer Arm," and, "Giga Impact," you will dominate. Then, add Meteor Mash, and Earthquake for invincibility. It will do you good in the Elite Four to have a Metagross. Thank you for reading, and I hope this helps you.
